Chapter 1
The moment Cheng Su was hit by the car, she thought her life was over.
When she opened her eyes again, she found herself in an unfamiliar environment—a house with a minimalist European style, its black, white, and gray color palette giving it an initial impression of cold austerity.
Where am I? What's going on? Didn't I die?
Cheng Su couldn't come up with an answer, because she realized she was moving forward. Only then did she notice a woman sitting in front of her.
The woman was in a wheelchair, wearing a silk nightgown that revealed her swan-like neck. The collarbones on her chest moved like a pair of fluttering butterflies with each breath, and her ink-black hair cascaded over her shoulders. Even though her eyes were veiled by a light gauze, the exquisite, three-dimensional quality of her features was evident.
Cheng Su approached the woman and reached out. With a sudden surge of force, she shoved the woman out of the wheelchair.
?
Cheng Su was shocked. What am I doing? Why would I deliberately push this person? Why can't I control my own body?
She wanted to apologize immediately, but no sound came out, as if someone had her throat.
Watching the woman lying on the ground—fragile, helpless, and pitiful—Cheng Su was overwhelmed with guilt. I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to. Are you hurt? Do you need to go to the hospital?
The woman couldn't hear her thoughts. She lay motionless on the ground, and Cheng Su watched anxiously, worried she had fainted.
Suddenly, she heard a derisive snort, dripping with contempt: "Stop pretending. Do you think you're some hot commodity? You're just a blind woman. You should be grateful I agreed to marry you, not bossing me around. Do you even think you're worthy?"
Cheng Su's eyes widened at these brazen words. What the hell is going on? How can she talk again? And why is she being so cruel and malicious?
"Don't you have any self-awareness? What kind of fool would ever love a blind person?"
Cheng Su scoffed inwardly as a flood of memories, not her own, rushed into her mind.
After absorbing the memories, Cheng Su summarized the situation in one sentence: she had transmigrated into a book.
She had been reborn into a melodramatic yuri novel she'd stumbled upon, becoming the book's gold-digging, vain, and green tea villainess. A year ago, she had deliberately approached the book's big shot protagonist for money, tricking her into marriage while secretly despising the woman's blindness. After the wedding, her true nature had emerged as she relentlessly mocked, humiliated, and gaslighted the protagonist. Eventually, the big shot saw through her facade, and with the help of her returned white moonlight, her vision was restored. The villainess, in turn, was abandoned in a mental institution, where she died forgotten and alone.
Ah, this... I transmigrated into a book just because I share the same name as the villain?
No system, no cheats, just dumped into this world?
Ah, this... is kind of rough.
But Cheng Su did catch on to something: it seems, maybe, possibly, likely that the original host will end up self-destructing.
Ah, this...
No time to think. Her survival instinct went into overdrive. She slid on her knees before the big shot and started improvising: "So even if everyone calls me an idiot, I don't care. Because my heart belongs only to you."
Big shot, look into my eyes. I don't believe you can't see my sincerity.
Only then did Cheng Su realize she could control her body!
This... Why not earlier? Why wait until the original host pushed the big shot down before letting her take control? The intention to follow the plot is too obvious.
While Cheng Su was enthusiastically complaining about the plot, the big shot, out of her sight, frowned.
What's going on? Didn't she die from overwork handling company affairs?
Her soul had witnessed its own cremation and burial.
The scene where Cheng Su pushed her down was unforgettable. But wasn't that five years ago?
Could she... have been reborn?
The thought flashed through her mind, and goosebumps rose on her skin.
In her previous life, she had made a miraculous comeback from the mire, only to die of overwork before she could even enjoy the life she had so hard-won. The thought was unbearable. Since heaven had given her a second chance, she had no reason to waste it.
Gu Qianxi accepted the reality of her rebirth. At this point, her eyes were still unhealed, and she still clung to the belief that Cheng Su's feelings for her were genuine. But having seen Cheng Su's true colors in her past life, she now wanted nothing to do with her.
Cheng Su's words were laughable. One moment she was calling her a blind fool, the next she was claiming her heart belonged only to her. Could she be any more fake?
Cheng Su even pretended to be nervous, gripping her hand tightly. Gu Qianxi felt disgusted by the sheer hypocrisy. I must have been blind as a bat to trust Cheng Su so much in my past life.
Gu Qianxi pulled her hand away from Cheng Su's grip and inadvertently glanced at her, only to see...
Gu Qianxi froze slightly, suddenly realizing she could see.
Quickly, she discovered she could only see Cheng Su and the things around her. Beyond Cheng Su's presence, the world remained pitch-black, like the void of a black hole in the universe.
What kind of cheat is this? Reborn just to deliberately blind her?
Gu Qianxi tilted her head, looking around uneasily. Cheng Su, thinking she was scared, quickly lowered her voice and said, "Don't be afraid. Does anything hurt? Should we go to the hospital?"
Hearing Cheng Su's voice made Gu Qianxi nauseous. Since being reborn, she really didn't want to waste her breath on her. "Shut up."
So fake and so chattering—just so annoying.
Cheng Su only obeyed for three seconds. She noticed a smear of blood on Gu Qianxi's palm and started chattering again.
"You're bleeding! Oh no, that must hurt a lot."
"You need to go to the hospital. I'll call 120."
"The doctor will definitely ask for the address. Our address is—"
The sound of phone buttons followed.
Gu Qianxi watched Cheng Su's panicked act with cold eyes and couldn't help but think, Didn't Cheng Su want me dead so she could inherit my fortune? Why is she pretending to care now? She knows better than anyone that I can't see—so why put on such a convincing act? Who is she even performing for? Or is she just an actor with an irresistible urge to perform?
"I have a private doctor," Gu Qianxi said, frowning. Her palm did sting slightly, but the real pain was in her ankle, which she'd just twisted.
Cheng Su suddenly realized, Of course! A big shot like her would definitely have a private physician on retainer. My apologies, I overstepped. I was just a corporate drone before, I didn't realize this was the level she operated on.
Cheng Su scrolled through her phone to a contact labeled "Idiot Doctor." Ah, this must be it.
She carefully dialed the number and briefly explained the situation.
After hanging up, she looked at Gu Qianxi, feeling awkward. "Let me help you to the sofa."
If the doctor arrives and sees Gu Qianxi lying there so vulnerable while I stand by indifferently... yikes, I'd look like such a monster! To outsiders, it'd be obvious domestic abuse.
Gu Qianxi coldly refused, "No need."
Enduring the tearing pain, Gu Qianxi staggered to her feet, the agony a constant reminder of the insincerity of the person beside her.
The wheelchair was nearby. Gu Qianxi, using Cheng Su's light, sat down without glancing at her again, then steered the smart wheelchair toward the living room.
Cheng Su, who had been so tense she'd almost reached out to help, finally relaxed her hand. Thank goodness she didn't fall.
She watched Gu Qianxi's retreating figure, scratching her head. This is tough, she thought. Gu Qianxi is so cold to me. Have our feelings truly broken?
Before long, the private doctor arrived.
Cheng Su was about to greet the doctor, but he completely ignored her and went straight to Gu Qianxi's side.
Left alone, Cheng Su bit the tip of her tongue in awkwardness.
Gu Qianxi offered her first genuine smile of the evening. "You're here."
Zhao Yan saw the large, scraped wound and asked, "How did you get this?"
Only after returning to this life and finally seeing her best friend did Gu Qianxi's lingering sense of unreality begin to fade.
She had truly been reborn.
"I fell."
"How did you fall?"
Gu Qianxi's gaze was drawn to Cheng Su as she approached. Cheng Su was so "dazzling," radiating a light that illuminated her surroundings, making it impossible for Gu Qianxi to ignore her.
She really wanted to know how to eliminate this annoying bug she'd encountered upon returning to this life.
Zhao Yan glanced sideways.
Cheng Su stopped, realizing the doctor was looking at her. She immediately offered him a friendly smile.
Zhao Yan gave Cheng Su a cold look. It was obvious who was responsible for Gu Qianxi's injuries today. Ever since Gu Qianxi had blindly married Cheng Su, every minor and major injury Gu Qianxi had suffered was somehow linked to her.
The fact that this woman could smile while her wife was injured was simply... heartless.
They had been college classmates, and in Zhao Yan's eyes, Gu Qianxi had always been someone who admired strength. Cheng Su, on the other hand, was a smooth-talking, opportunistic, and content-as-she-was dead weight. Cheng Su should have been someone Gu Qianxi would never look twice at. If it weren't for that sudden car accident that unexpectedly blinded Gu Qianxi, giving Cheng Su an opportunity to seize, how could Gu Qianxi have married someone like her?
Zhao Yan carefully treated the wound while Gu Qianxi leaned quietly against the back of the chair. Neither spoke, and Cheng Su stood awkwardly beside them, growing bored.
According to Cheng Su's habits, when a guest visited, she should at least offer them a glass of water—basic courtesy.
After some hesitation, Cheng Su spoke. "Doctor, would you like something to drink?"
Zhao Yan gave Cheng Su a suspicious look. "What did you call me?"
Cheng Su was a bit flustered. She really didn't know the doctor's name. "Uh, well, Doctor, you are a doctor, aren't you?"
Zhao Yan eyed her with even greater suspicion. "What were you just about to do?"
Cheng Su broke out in a cold sweat under her gaze. "Uh, I was just going to ask if you wanted anything to drink?"
"Oh, coffee, I guess."
How does she think I'm trying to poison her? Cheng Su thought. And who drinks coffee in the middle of the night?
After Cheng Su left, Zhao Yan couldn't help but ask Gu Qianxi, "Did she suddenly change her ways, or is she just putting on an act?"
"Before, when I came to your house, she either snapped at me or gave me the cold shoulder. She never treated me with any kindness. And now she's calling me 'Doctor'? Oh my god, I'm getting goosebumps. She wouldn't dare poison my coffee, would she?"
Gu Qianxi looked thoughtful. "Yan Yan, find me a lawyer and draft a divorce agreement. But keep it quiet for now. Don't let anyone else know."
Zhao Yan froze mid-application of bone-setting water to Gu Qianxi's sprained ankle.
She thought she misheard. "What did you say?"
When she realized what she'd heard, her eyes widened in excitement. "Oh my god! My love-struck friend has finally come to her senses!"
Without asking why, Zhao Yan immediately pulled out her phone and contacted her group of lawyers who specialized in divorce cases. This marriage is over, even if it means going to court.
Cheng Su brought over the coffee she'd finally managed to make. Zhao Yan was the only one sitting on the sofa in the living room. She watched Cheng Su approach with a radiant smile, as if admiring a good luck charm.
Cheng Su pulled at the corner of her mouth, controlling her expression, and said with a smile, "It's my first time using the coffee machine, so it took a while. Sorry about that."
Zhao Yan waved it off and took a small sip of the coffee. Her expression was hard to read.
Cheng Su hesitated. "Is it bad? Don't drink it if you don't like it. I'll dump it later."
Zhao Yan shook her head and smiled. "Actually, it has a unique flavor."
It was truly undrinkable, but Gu Qianxi was finally going to divorce Cheng Su. Right now, everything tasted sweet, everything looked acceptable, and even Cheng Su didn't seem quite so annoying.
Despite saying it had a "unique flavor," Zhao Yan took only one sip and didn't drink any more. She was afraid it would land her in the hospital.
Cheng Su glanced around, not seeing Gu Qianxi, and asked, "Where is she?"
Zhao Yan savored the bitter taste in her mouth. "I took her back to her bedroom."
She stood up, grabbed the medicine kit, and prepared to leave. "If there's nothing else, I'll be going now."
Cheng Su stopped her.
"Are there any special instructions I should be aware of?" Cheng Su asked.
Zhao Yan gave her a meaningful look and hissed, "I already told Qianxi."
"Tell me again, just in case," Cheng Su insisted, pulling out her phone and opening the notes app. "She's a patient, and it's inconvenient for her to do anything herself. If you tell me, I can take better care of her."
Zhao Yan raised an eyebrow, momentarily suspecting Cheng Su's ulterior motives for being so attentive. But seeing her stubborn insistence, she decided to explain the instructions after all. Cheng Su is delicate and pampered, she thought. Even if I tell her, she won't deign to do any of it.
Cheng Su meticulously wrote down every word, then double-checked her notes to ensure nothing was missed. She nodded gratefully. "Thank you for your trouble, Doctor. I'll see you out."
"No, I can walk myself," Zhao Yan said, just as she stepped out the door. The thought of Cheng Su calling her "Doctor" all the time still felt awkward. She turned back and asked, "Cheng Su, have you forgotten my name?"
Cheng Su couldn't believe she'd been exposed so suddenly. She licked her lips awkwardly and instinctively flashed a friendly smile.
Zhao Yan was speechless. Great, she really forgot. She probably only remembers the nicknames she gave me.
Gritting her teeth, she said, "Zhao Yan. Remember it?"
Cheng Su smiled obediently. "Got it, Dr. Zhao."
By the time Zhao Yan left, it was already 12:30 AM.
Feeling tired, Cheng Su went upstairs and chose a guest room near Gu Qianxi's.
After washing up, she was so drowsy she could barely keep her eyes open. Before falling asleep, she set an alarm for two hours later.
Dr. Zhao had said it was best to reapply the bone-setting water every two hours to aid recovery.
After a two-hour nap, Cheng Su was jolted awake by her alarm.
Groggily, she grabbed the medicine bottle she'd left in the living room and knocked on Gu Qianxi's door.
No one answered.
But the door wasn't locked. She gently pushed it open. Did Zhao Yan know I was coming to apply medicine to Gu Qianxi tonight and leave the door open for me? She's a doctor, after all—always thinking of everything.
Cheng Su crept inside and crouched quietly at the foot of Gu Qianxi's bed.
Gu Qianxi hadn't drawn the curtains. Moonlight streamed in, casting a thin veil over her, like a sleeping beauty stranded on the shore.
In the pale moonlight, Cheng Su prepared to apply medicine to Gu Qianxi's ankle.
She dripped a few drops of medicine into her palm, rubbed it in, and gently touched the ankle.
Following Zhao Yan's instructions for applying medicine, Cheng Su carefully and diligently began.
As she worked, Cheng Su's mind wandered. The skin beneath her palm was as smooth and fine as white jade. I wonder what body wash she uses... I'll have to look for the same one later...
Lost in her thoughts, she was startled when the ankle beneath her palm moved. Before she could react, she was kicked to the ground.
Gu Qianxi's voice, as cold as the moonlight, rang out: "Pervert!"
