Chapter 51: Where Did She Get a Deskmate From?
Shop Owner Shen smiled slightly and greeted the sweet young man, "Hello, I'm the owner here, surname Shen."
"Brother Shen, hello hello, I'm Jiang Mei, 'Mei' as in envy."
Shang Ying leaned lazily against the doorframe, waiting until the two finished talking before speaking up in an unhurried manner.
"I'm having lunch here."
Without standing on ceremony, Jiang Mei immediately felt hungry upon hearing there was food after starving all morning.
"I want to eat too! Can I, can I?"
"Of course you can."
Shop Owner Shen agreed pleasantly. More people meant a livelier meal, and this kid had a decent personality that was quite easy to like. Besides... he actually called Shang Ying "Boss"?
Sensing the mockery in Shop Owner Shen's eyes, Shang Ying was too lazy to explain further, simply repeating her earlier line.
"I'm really not a delinquent girl."
"I understand," Shop Owner Shen chuckled.
Returning after watching the scene unfold outside, the temperature of the dishes was just right. Shop Owner Shen went to the kitchen to fetch another set of bowl and chopsticks, and the three sat down together. Looking at the spread that excelled in color, aroma, and taste, Jiang Mei's eyes went straight, devouring three bowls of rice like he had just escaped a famine.
When the last piece of beef was mercilessly snapped up by Jiang Mei, Shang Ying snapped.
"Is your family not feeding you or did you go bankrupt? Hoarding meat like you need to hibernate? You'd better save some then. With your level of combat ability, you'd just get dragged back by others to serve as winter rations."
Shop Owner Shen was thoroughly amused by her brilliant tirade. Who knew how much he enjoyed listening to Shang Ying roast people. It was simply too entertaining.
Jiang Mei drank some water, swallowed the rice in his mouth, and let out a melancholic sigh. He wasn't far off from being bankrupt right now anyway, having not gone home for four days straight.
"My dad wants to transfer me to Capital No. 1 High School. I'm currently running away from home in protest. He cut off my cards, so I've been eating instant noodles for days..."
Hearing this, Shop Owner Shen was somewhat puzzled.
"I heard Capital No. 1 High School is the best school in the Capital."
He hadn't been in the Capital for long, but living fairly close to Capital No. 1 High School, he had learned of its prestigious reputation. Logically speaking, getting to study at a good school couldn't possibly be considered a bad thing.
Jiang Mei let out two more deep sighs, shook a finger, and looked at him with an eye that said 'you wouldn't understand my pain.'
"Precisely because it's the best, I don't want to go."
Shop Owner Shen: (^^) ‘Hmm?’
"Care to elaborate?"
"Think about it, Brother Shen. Aren't good schools notoriously strict? Capital No. 1 High School is even more terrifying. No phones allowed, no scaling school walls! If I actually go there, won't I be managed to death?!"
Shang Ying rolled her eyes upon hearing this. No wonder his dad wanted him to go to Capital No. 1 High School. He probably got called in by teachers to get lectured at his current school on a regular basis.
At the thought of the Jiang family head, a local kingpin and triad boss in the Capital, getting summoned by teachers to be lectured because his son misbehaved, she couldn't help wanting to laugh. As expected, everyone gets their karma.
Meanwhile, at a corporate meeting, Shang Heng sneezed.
‘Could it be that his rebellious daughter was cursing him behind his back again?’
Shop Owner Shen suddenly understood. He had always been an outstanding student and a top performer in the eyes of teachers, so he hadn't thought of it from this angle. He offered Jiang Mei a few comforting words, then gestured with his eyes for him to look at Shang Ying.
"But your Boss is at Capital No. 1 High School too. Are you sure you don't want to go?"
"Really?!"
Shang Ying's ears throbbed from his loud voice.
"Fake news. Don't come."
Knowing that Shang Ying was at Capital No. 1 High School as well, Jiang Mei immediately came around. No longer resisting or running away from home, he happily called his dad to say he wanted to transfer to Capital No. 1 High School right away.
Hearing that his stubborn, rebellious son actually agreed to transfer, and was even clamoring to transfer earlier for fear of regretting it, Jiang Hongyan immediately sent someone to handle the transfer procedures.
The next day at school.
Sporting dark circles under her eyes, Shang Ying was led into the school gate by the hand by Shang Yi, barely avoiding crashing into the school wall.
She had stayed up all night again pulling together the plot details. Because of Huo Yunshu's incident, she roughly understood that certain predetermined plot points were unavoidable, so she had to find ways to neutralize them.
Her initial plan of staying far away from the male and female leads had been overturned, so she needed to re-plan properly. Regardless, as long as nobody in the Shang family fell in love with the female lead, nothing terrible would happen.
So after tossing and turning, Shang Ying pulled another all-nighter. In the morning, she was dragged out of bed by Aunt Zhao, leaving her brain thoroughly foggy and her eyelids barely able to open.
The surrounding students had already heard about Shang Ying and Shang Yi being biological siblings, and the way they looked at them shifted from gossip to astonishment.
The school forum was packed with drama yesterday. First was the dirt exposed on the elegant school beauty Lu Yan, followed by the revelation that the school's hot couple were actually biological siblings. With two massive bombshells dropping, the forum nearly crashed.
[My Wife Is Shan Yi]: ‘Version 2 of "Lovers Turn Out to Be Siblings" just dropped! Lovers turn into siblings. Which brainless person reported them as a couple?!’
[Stronger Than Super Mario]: ‘Holy crap, a sparkling, glamorous school beauty actually bullies students? You really can't judge a book by its cover! Tsk tsk, as expected, Senior Sister Lin Qian is the best.’
[Stop Stop Stop]: ‘Not only did she bully students, she even used connections to get someone expelled! Having a background sure makes you invincible! Though rumor has it this incident triggered a shift in the school leadership.’
[Wild Show Mule]: ‘I said Lu Yan was a bully before and no one believed me. Now that she kicked a steel plate and the truth was exposed, she got what she deserved! Served her right!’
[Withered Grass Madman]: ‘Are you saying the sweet CP I've been shipping for so long is fake??? I can't live anymore! Why do my ships never come true?!’
[Lazy and Unbothered]: ‘Look on the bright side, upstairs! Shipping a sibling pair is fine too. Having two identical, gorgeous faces, their parents must wake up laughing every night!’
[I Am Heaven's Dumpling]: ‘Am I the only one curious about Shang Ying's background? Causing such a major shakeup in school leadership AND getting two students expelled directly. So powerful.’
Discussion flared across the comment section. Guesses about Shang Ying's background were as numerous as test papers in a desk drawer, but after all the guessing, everyone agreed on one thing: Shang Ying definitely held an extraordinary background!
Dazedly brought to her classroom by Shang Yi, Shang Ying weakly said goodbye to him. Stepping over the doorway threshold, she nearly tripped, saved only by Shang Yi's quick reaction. Otherwise, she would have woken up instantly from the impact.
Looking at Shang Ying's departing back uneasily, Shang Yi felt helpless. If only he and Shang Ying were in the same class. His sister truly was a handful.
Returning to her seat, Shang Ying slumped onto her desk to sleep as usual. Beside her, the sound of her deskmate tidying up the desk was soft and rustling, very quiet, not disturbing anyone at all.
However—
‘Where did she get a deskmate from?’
Shang Ying had always sat alone, the only single-seated student in the class, proving her interpersonal relationships were beyond terrible. So any sound beside her stood out sharply.
‘Bugs? Cockroaches? Mice?’
She raised her head abruptly, turning to look beside her. As her blurry vision gradually cleared, she blinked twice in disbelief, snapping wide awake in an instant!
"Wait... why are you here?”
