Chapter 21: Villain Wei Yunmo
Suddenly, a kid appeared. Out of instinct, Xie De made a move.
The kid was skinny as a rail, his height only reaching Xie De’s shoulders. He looked to be about thirteen or fourteen years old, wearing an ill-fitting white lab coat, walking barefoot on the ground. He looked completely disheveled from head to toe, with some bruises at the corner of his mouth. His pitch-black eyes looked at him numbly. His hair was yellowish, indicating malnutrition.
Xie De pressed the gun against his head. He didn't resist, didn't scream, and even closed his eyes in despair, like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered, accepting his predestined fate.
What the hell?
Uh... It's been a while since I've interacted with people, I actually forgot how to start a conversation for a moment.
Xie De withdrew the gun and sized up the child in front of him. Popping up suddenly in such a remote place, and looking so disheveled… could there be a mountain village nearby, and this child was trafficked and then escaped?
The more he thought about it, the more he felt his idea made sense.
Xie De dropped a sentence, "Come here," and walked towards the tent.
A trace of surprise flashed through the child's eyes. He obediently followed and stood outside the tent. His thin and small body looked more and more like a solitary, helpless stray child.
Seeing Xie De return completely unharmed, Gibberish breathed a sigh of relief and asked in a good mood, "What was it? A wild beast? If so, that's great, I can teach you how to deal with it!"
Xie De sneered.
"You say you'll teach me how to deal with it, but actually you'll just play a video and let me teach myself."
"Oh my, don't say that..."
"I picked up a child, and now I think we need to make a trip back to the city," Xie De said as he dug out some ready-to-eat canned food and water.
"A child? How could there be a child in this barren wilderness?"
Gibberish's line of sight followed Xie De outside, and the Xiaodu smart speaker emitted a red light.
Xie De went out and casually tossed the food to the child. He threw his baseball cap to the side, and his long silver hair instantly fell down. He lazily lit a cigarette and leaned against a tree, puffing out clouds of smoke.
"What's your name?"
The child clumsily caught the food, his expression almost stagnant. After a few seconds, he hurriedly opened the can and stuffed the food into his mouth, saying, "Wei Yunmo."
Wei Yunmo?
A very familiar name.
The Xiaodu smart speaker let out a sharp, screeching alarm.
The Bluetooth earpiece in his ear dinged, and Gibberish came online, yelling loudly, "Ahhhh... the villain! It's the villain, Host!"
He remembered, he remembered it all. When he and Gibberish first met, one of the characters Gibberish used to intimidate him was the villain Wei Yunmo, stuff about human research, psychopathic behavior, severing hands and feet, and the like.
His smoking motion trembled.
Xie De carefully observed the child in front of him.
Disheveled and weak, pitiful and helpless. Where was there even half a trace of the person Gibberish had described?
"Uh, Gibberish, could this be someone with the same name?"
"Absolutely impossible," Gibberish said seriously.
"I remember the plot saying that the villain Wei Yunmo is the product of a mysterious laboratory, possessing the superpower of flesh and blood regeneration. He grew up in the laboratory since childhood, underwent many terrifying experiments, and his emotions became increasingly apathetic."
"Until he also became a researcher and accidentally entered a scenario. Then he went completely mad, actually harboring the delusion of researching the scenarios. He caught players who had entered scenarios everywhere in real life. Single-handedly, he researched a super large number of veteran players to death. He could practically rival the scenario system itself."
"Even the protagonist almost died by his hands. The two of them fought to the death for over ten rounds before the protagonist finally managed to kill him."
"Host, look at this guy in front of you still wearing a white lab coat. Is his identity still not clear enough?"
Xie De swallowed hard. Looking at the brat in front of him again, his expression became a bit off. He took a fierce drag of his cigarette and said nimbly in his mind, ‘Holy crap, so you're saying this guy ran out of the laboratory? And I just happened to bump into him. Then shouldn't we just prevent this child from falling back into the hands of the laboratory, nipping his path to villainy in the bud?’
Speaking of this, the system's voice became even more serious.
"But Host, have you considered that the laboratory's power is very formidable? Even when the villain ran all the way here, they still managed to catch him back. And later on, the laboratory aided the wicked, helping the villain kill so many veteran players."
"So you're saying we can't take the villain away, we absolutely can't stop the villain from turning dark, right?"
"That's not exactly it either. I just mean to say that if you don't start taking action right now, you're dead meat."
"Huh?"
Gibberish replied mysteriously.
"That is a secret laboratory. The villain escaped on his own, and you just happened to bump into him. Even if you say you don't know anything, can you be sure that psychopathic laboratory won't silence you by killing you?"
Damn, that makes sense.
Xie De felt a jolt in his heart. Without Gibberish needing to instruct him, he knew exactly what to do. Run away quickly!
Snuffing out the cigarette in one motion, he packed up his things extremely quickly, dismantling the tent he had only recently set up.
Wei Yunmo was still chewing his food, staring blankly as he packed.
Xie De didn't have time to pay attention to him for the moment. While organizing his gear, he asked, "Gibberish, so should I take the villain with me now or not? He probably won't reveal that he met me, right?"
Gibberish gritted its teeth, "What do you think?"
As Xie De packed, he felt he was incredibly unlucky. Overcome with emotion, he replied. |
"Me? How should I know? If I don't take him away, and the villain tells them my appearance and whereabouts, I'm 100% finished. If I take him away, I feel the laboratory will let me off even less, plus I don't know how to raise a kid! Either choice is death! I can't bring myself to harm a little child. I had no choice in the scenario, but I've never killed anyone in real life."
"Then, we can't hand our fate over to others. Take him away?"
"Alright."
The person and the system hit it off instantly. Xie De carefully buried the traces of him ever having been there. He didn't even ask Wei Yunmo if he was willing to go with him. He just put on a cold face and made the villain follow him down the mountain.
Wei Yunmo looked at the guitar bag the man carried on his back, knowing clearly what was inside. He didn't dare to say anything to the contrary and honestly followed along.
As he walked, he heard a movement behind him and turned his head to look.
And then, just from this one glance, he was startled.
He saw a fist-sized large centipede commanding a dense, uncountable swarm of insects, completely and thoroughly covering up all the remaining traces the man hadn't cleaned up properly just now, including the scent.
The large centipede stretched out its long limbs, and with a swish, bypassed Wei Yunmo, climbed onto the man's shoulder, and quietly acted as an ornament again.
The silver-haired man skillfully patted this terrifying existence as if comforting it.
Wei Yunmo became even more silent.
Just what was this man's identity? Was he not from the laboratory?
This was the seventh day since Wei Yunmo escaped from the laboratory. He knew those people were still in hot pursuit. He couldn't go to big cities with surveillance. He could only run toward deep mountains and old forests.
He was very hungry, and also very tired.
But he couldn't go back. He had crawled out of hell with great difficulty, he would rather die out here.
A wave of dizziness hit his brain. When he squeezed out of the bushes, he felt a terrifying killing intent, and immediately met a pair of dangerous dark green eyes. A gun, without him knowing when, was already aimed at his head.
Upon seeing the man for the first time, Wei Yunmo's brain automatically filled in the subsequent plotline.
This was an executioner specially trained by the laboratory, sent to eliminate him, an escaped experimental subject, to ensure the laboratory's secrets would not be leaked.
However, the man didn't kill him, but instead gave him food, took him out of the mountains, and evaded the laboratory's pursuit.
Who exactly was this man?
To be honest, Wei Yunmo wasn't surprised by the man's silver hair and green eyes, because in the organization, many different races often appeared. Black people, White people, Native Americans. Their eyes, hair, and even skin were all sorts of colors, and their temperaments were also incredibly bizarre.
But they were just like that.
Far less than the sense of mystery this man gave him. Involuntarily, Wei Yunmo developed an intense, almost agonizing curiosity about him.
After going down the mountain, the man took him on a fast drive all the way to a small house in the old district of an unknown small city.
It probably only had two bedrooms and a living room, barely renovated and very crude. The furniture and everything else were incomplete. It was probably just a safe house for the man.
He was settled into one of the rooms.
Before Xie De left.
Wei Yunmo lowered his eyes, appearing very obedient and well-behaved, and asked weakly.
"How should I address you?"
"39."
