Chapter 5: Blind in Both Eyes and Heart—How Terrifying
"Forget it. You don't need to explain. We're not on the same page," Shen Can said, deciding not to engage further with the Protagonist bottom.
Even if I were wrong, I doubt he'd admit it. A real apology would involve checking if I was unexpectedly ill or offering compensation. What's the point of a verbal apology?
A moment later, the Protagonist top arrived. "You're picking on Keke? He just bumped into you! Keke didn't mean it!" he roared.
"Tsk, which eye did you see my brother bullying him with?" Shen Chi stepped in front of Shen Can, rolling his eyes.
"Both! You drove Keke to tears—isn't that bullying? Does it have to be physical to count? Is this the quality of the Shen family?" Zhou Jingxuan demanded, his voice thick with fury.
Both your eyes are blind, and your heart is even blind—how terrifying. Just as the crowd was at a loss for words, Shen Can's mental voice chimed in, making everyone stifle laughter.
"The Shen family's conduct is none of your business. At least we don't make baseless accusations without knowing the facts, nor do we shout and make a scene in public," Shen Ze said forcefully, stepping up to Shen Can.
"Who's the one lacking manners? You nearly made my ears bleed with those two shouts. With a voice like that, you should be shouting to boost your company's declining performance and plummeting stock prices—see if you can warm things up," Lu Shao said, sauntering over and slinging an arm around Shen Ze's shoulder.
Zhou Jingxuan watched Lu Shao speak and remained silent. He had nothing to say to people like Lu Shao. So what if he came from a wealthy family and had powerful sisters and brothers-in-law? He acted like he was the most formidable among City A's wealthy young masters, utterly arrogant. Zhou Jingxuan remembered trying to befriend him before, only to be met with such haughtiness. He pulled Shen Keke away; they had things to do.
After the two left, Shen Ze removed Lu Shao's arm from his shoulder. "Why did you speak up? This is our family matter. Be careful—people might hold it against you."
"What are you talking about, Little Ze? Your business is my business. Have you forgotten our years as roommates and revolutionary comrades? Besides, if he's bitter, let him come bother me." Lu Shao refused to let Shen Ze be formal with him.
Shen Ze glared at Lu Shao. "Who are you calling Little Ze?" Seeing Shen Ze's angry glare at the nickname, Lu Shao smiled and reached out to pinch his cheek. Even when he's angry and glaring, he's still so good-looking.
Do Second Brother and Shen Ze act like this at school too? No wonder you two are still on the CP rankings. Shen Can watched their interaction and thought silently.
Hearing Shen Can's thoughts, Lu Shao wanted to ask, What's this CP ranking thing? It's been mentioned twice now. Are we on it?
We've been graduated for years, and we're still on it? Shouldn't we be on the Brother List instead? We're the ultimate brothers!
They'd shared a dorm in high school at age sixteen and then again in college—what a coincidence! They ate together every day, played games together, and even occasionally helped each other bathe.
Moreover, Lu Shao and Shen Ze got along surprisingly well, despite liking almost completely different things.
Perhaps it was because Shen Ze became so busy founding his design company in college that he didn't visit Lu Shao's basketball games every day like he used to in middle school. Without that constant public display of their closeness, others didn't realize how close they truly were, which is why they didn't make it onto the Brother List.
No one could see their daily interactions in the dorm, nor could they see Lu Shao accompanying Shen Ze at his design company, keeping him company while he worked.
It was a real shame they missed out on the list. Their status as the ultimate best brothers should have echoed throughout the university!
It was all his fault for not paying much attention to the school forum back then. He'd rather have been playing basketball, out street racing, or boxing. He had too many interests to care about the forum, but now he realized how much he'd missed out.
Shen Ze had no idea what Lu Shao was thinking, nor did he know that Lu Shao could hear Shen Can's thoughts. If he did, he probably wouldn't be so calm right now.
Lu Shao stared at Shen Ze sitting beside him, pondering whether to tell him he could hear Shen Can's thoughts. But that would be too strange. "Hey, I can hear your brother's thoughts!" he'd say, and Shen Ze would probably think he was joking.
Forget it. I shouldn't speak rashly. I'll wait until I've figured out what to say and can convince Shen Ze I'm not joking.
Hearing the growing commotion and seeing the crowd in the banquet hall surge, Shen Can suddenly stood up. "Mom, I'm going to see what's happening."
Golden gossip, here I come! A real-life stepmother drama. Just imagine: parents are out of town, and I'm invited inside... This is getting spicy. And their surname is Wang! They could even call the old neighbor Mr. Wang my son. Ugh, I'm such a terrible person.
Shen Can waited for the expected "Good idea." Instead, everyone decided to go with him. But my family isn't usually this nosy! Lu Shao joining in makes sense, but why is Huo Xi so interested in the drama?
Huo Xi actually had little interest in the matter. He'd seen plenty of family scandals, some even more bizarre than this.
What truly intrigued him was Shen Can. Why does Shen Can know about this? Did he overhear something beforehand?
Whoa, whoa, whoa, it's starting! Oh, it really is a huge bed. Ugh, am I too excited? This is so wrong.
Those who heard Shen Can's thoughts couldn't help but think, You know that too?
But President Wang isn't any better. He cheated on his pregnant wife, driving her to depression and causing her child to be stillborn. Within two months, he brought his mistress and their son home.
He continued to cheat, even bringing some illegitimate children home to raise. The mistress eventually died of anger after enduring it for years. Then he married the current woman, and now his eldest son is involved with someone else. Serves him right.
They retracted their earlier thought. Their Cancan wasn't the least bit wicked; it was this Old Master Wang who truly deserved his fate.
"I fed and clothed you, and you're sleeping with your stepmother? How could you betray me?" Old Master Wang roared at his eldest son, his face flushed crimson.
He turned to the woman on the bed. "I gave you the status of Matriarch of the Wang family, a life you never dreamed of. Is this how you repay me?"
The onlookers felt a pang of pity for Old Master Wang. At his age, when he should be enjoying his grandchildren, he was caught in such a scandal. Only the Shen family members remained expressionless, showing no sympathy for the old man.
